Well, despite all of our efforts, we didn't manage to sell the required number of tickets in order to award the house, so instead we will be awarding cash prizes, as outlined in the Terms and Conditions.  Please check back here soon for more information.

Thanks for all of your support and we wish all of you who entered the competition the best of luck in the upcoming draw.

May 12th 2009

When we first came across the idea of a competition to find a new owner for our Florida dream home, one of the inspirations for us was the Wilshaw family in Devon.  You may have seen their competition to win a Devon house set in eleven acres.  They were highly successful and sold 45,000 tickets but before they awarded the house to a lucky winner, the Gambling Commission stepped in and cast doubts on the validity of what they had done.

Since then the Wilshaws have refused to give in and they've doggedly stuck to their guns.  Last week they were able to report on their web site:

"Well it’s been a long time coming, but we are very pleased to announce that our competition will conclude as planned and the draw will be going ahead."

That's great news for them and we want to give them our congratulations - they deserve to succeed after all of their efforts and we wish them a well-deserved happy conclusion to their competition.

It's actually good news for us too.  One concern that some potential entrants into our competition have voiced is the issue of the Gambling Commission attitude to property competitions in the light of their approach to the Devon one.  From the start, our legal advisor was clear that our own competition met the requirements of the relevant statutes but he could see how the Gambling Commission might at least take issue with one or two aspects of the Devon competition.  The fact that the Commission has now "deemed the matter closed" takes away these concerns for our own competition.

At this late stage we have only a few days left and a lot of tickets to sell.  But we hope to have some media interest in the competition over the next few days and, like the Wilshaws, we are sticking to our goal.

So please take a look at what's on offer and join in - it's not too late!

January 19th 2009:

Now that the New Year fesitivities are over, the competition is fully up and running and the news is starting to spread.  We've recently had one mention in the Daily Telegraph and another on the Homes Overseas website. We're hoping for more and In addition, the owners have made a short video giving their views on why the Florida lifestyle is so good - click here to see it.

So we expect that the increased publicity will lead to a high demand for tickets from now until the close in May. This could be a perfect chance to escape the winter blues and the gloom of the recession!

Good luck to all you entrants.

December 19th 2008:

Well, it’s taken longer than we thought, but we’re delighted to announce that we’re back up and running! Our new card processor is now in place (for Visa & Mastercard) and though it’s taken a while, we’re excited to be able to bring you the opportunity to win a unique prize or a substantial amount of money. Please click here to see the full breakdown of prizes we have to offer our entrants.

We’d like to thank those of you who have been with us from the beginning for your patience, and apologise for the delays in being able to enter the competition. Due to the delays, we've extended the closing date to May 31st 2009.  It has been a frustrating few weeks for us, waiting impatiently to be able to launch the competition again - but rest assured, we’re confident that it will be smooth sailing from here on out, and we look forward to changing somebody’s life forever when the draw takes place!

For those of you who have just found us, welcome! Please take a few moments to look around the site and see for yourself the wonderful house on offer here, you’ll find several photos to whet your appetite and remember, there are more than 100 cash prizes if you miss out on the big one. This means you have at least a 1 in 430 chance of winning something, much better odds than if only the home was on offer.

We’ll keep you updated here on how things are progressing so be sure to check back regularly. We hope you have a wonderful festive season and good luck to all entrants!

December 2nd 2008:

We’d like to start by thanking everyone for their interest in our competition and we’re so sorry for the delays in taking entries. Your patience is greatly appreciated!

Great news: although it's taken longer than we anticipated to deal with all of the formalities, we have finally secured a new credit card processing service!  We will shortly be able to accept Visa and Mastercard for competition entries once again (Maestro may follow on but not until at least February - apologies if that's your preferred method of payment).

We're now having the necessary website changes made and our tech support people have told us that it will take around a week to complete and test the new system, so we expect to ‘go live’ ahead of the Christmas break. What a nice late present the house would make!  We should have more updates within the next week so check back for the latest news.

One change we have been forced to make is that unfortunately we will be unable to accept entries from US residents with this new system - both our new credit card processing service and our legal advisers have made that clear.  Current USA and Florida laws prevent this type of competition being offered in their country, so we have no choice but to abide by that as we want to ensure our competition complies 100% with the laws of both the US and UK so that the winner can enjoy his or her spoils without any problems. Guess they’ll just have to share that beautiful Florida sun with the rest of us . . . . . . . .

Anyway, we'll post more updates as we get closer to starting again and we'll be writing to all of you who have already tried to participate to advise you how to proceed from here.  As ever, if you have any questions or require more information in the meantime, please just get in touch via the Contact Us page, we’re always happy to answer your questions and queries.

Thanks again for your patience…and most importantly, best of luck to those of you entering!

November 18th 2008:

We've had an enormous amount of interest with more than 500 people wanting to enter the competition within the first few days.  We're tremendously encouraged because it looks like there is a great demand for the home and we will be delighted to see it owned and used by the lucky winner.

Sadly, we've hit a snag.  We started off with PayPal as a payment processor but it rapidly became obvious that their service would not work for us (possibly due to the high level of activity we started out with) so we've decided to find an alternative.  We've reluctantly suspended entry into the competition while we do this but we aim to resolve things within a week so please visit our site again soon for updates.

If you would like to be emailed once we have completed this please click to enter the competition.
